SELF-AWARENESS BEST PRACTICES

SELF-AWARENESS BEST PRACTICES

Self-Awareness is the ability to understand what you do well, what motivates you and which people or situations push your buttons. This helps you to know your strengths and weaknesses so you can improve how you adapt to the world around you and how you engage with your team.

SELF CARE

  • Exercise and eat healthy foods to take care of your body and mind.
  • Be honest about who you are. See weaknesses as opportunities.
  • Observe how you are thinking and if your thoughts affect your actions.
  • Everyone makes mistakes. Try not to judge; just be aware.
  • Ask for help when you need it. You can’t do and know everything.
  • Be kind to yourself and be realistic about what you can accomplish.
  • Realize that tension in your body or hesitation in your actions can be a sign of fear.
  • Understand and be honest about your fear.
Take time for yourself and appreciate who you are.

MOODS & EMOTIONS

  • Try not to judge your emotions but rather just be aware of them.
  • Be an observer of the effects of your emotions when you slip up.
  • Learn to sense your emotions and think about how and why you are reacting. Become comfortable with the uncomfortable feelings.
  • Realize that you do have control over your mind.
  • You cannot control other people. You can only control your reaction to them.
  • Keep a daily reflection journal to see situations that trigger your emotions.
  • Create an emotional timeline of your life to realize that you will always have ups and downs. And you can get through them.
  • Ask others to help you recognize emotions you may not see.
  • Under stress you will revert to your natural style so learn to recognize your own behaviors.

Open your mind with weekly reflection of your self-awareness:

  • What did I do well this week?
  • What motivated me the most?
  • Which areas pushed my buttons?
  • Did I upset anyone this week
  • What areas do I still need to work on?
